Lake Natoma, CA - After many traveling regattas this fall, the Hornets raced today on their home water. A light cross-tail wind held to the course the whole day, providing some extra speed to the boats. Today the Hornets entered in an Open 4+, Open Pair, Collegiate Novice 8+, and two entries in the Open 8+.
The Open 4+ went into this race with a completely new lineup. After only having one practice together, the boat was able to hold a strong course chasing after a UC Davis boat that had just competed in the Head of the Charles in Boston. The Hornets fell to a 3rd place finish behind UC Berkeley and UC Davis.
The Open Pair is the same that took the gold at the Head of the Pacific two weeks ago. The pair held a very strong point through the race and came to a first place finish.
The Collegiate Novice 8 entered in the race with an ever-changing boating. The novices went in with their three races of experience to guide them through. The crew finished off strong to a 4th place finish behind two UC Berkeley boats and a Sonoma State boat.
The Open 8+ had to entries from Sacramento, the Varsity and the novices. The Novices had already raced earlier, and had a few changes before they sent back off for their second race of the day. The Varsity 8 had some people that also raced earlier in the morning. The Varsity boat held a fast pace throughout the whole race and came to a 3rd place finish just behind two Berkeley boats and ahead of UC Davis and UC Irvine.
Sac State's next race is at the Head of the Lagoon in Foster City, CA on November 13th. Come out and support the crews.
