Stockton, CA - With only a week's worth of more training, the Hornets took off for Stockton. A light drizzle hung around in the early races, and a tail wind kept the boats moving along all day. The floating plant pods along the course, and unfriendly boat wakes proved to challenge the coxswains and the rowers. The crews established their presence, and took 1st place in all the races they entered.
The Varsity 8 and Novice 8 both moved through the course early in the morning, with the Varsity 8 beating University of the Pacific, and the Novice 8 beating both University of the Pacific and Cal Maritime Academy.
The Open 4 was in the one of the largest entries of the whole day. It made its way through the course to a victory over multiple Pacific and Cal Maritime boats.
The Collegiate pairs had 2 entries today. One the returning victors from last weekends race, and the other, a new pair with only two practices together.. The new pair flexed their muscles and showed that they can hold their own, beating last weeks 1st place pair by over 30 seconds. Both Pacific boats that were entered in the race had scratched, so it was only 2 Sac State boats down the course.
The Hornets will race next at the Wine Country Rowing Classic, in Petaluma, CA, on Sunday October 22nd.
