Seattle, WA - On Saturday, May 7th, Sacramento State Men’s Varsity 4+ made program history, lining up against the University of Washington on their home course on the Montlake Cut in Seattle, WA.

The Varsity 4+ started at 10:37 am on a classically Seattle Day with overcast skies. There were crowds estimated at 40,000 people, lined down the course in yachts and in the Cut.

Off the line, the six boat race was tight between the log boom (set up to anchor all the watching boats). Two of the University of Washington 4’s shot off the line, leaving Sac State to battle for 3rd with another UW 4+, Oregon State, and Seattle Pacific University. At 1000 meters into the race, Sacramento State was in a dead heat with UW(c) and Oregon State, while Seattle Pacific trailed. It was then that the Huskies powered through the Hornets on their home course to finish in 3rd, while the Hornets managed to push through a determined Oregon State 4+ to get 4th.

It was certainly Washington’s day at their premier home event, as they swept all races that they entered. The Hornets however had an excellent showing, knocking off a PAC 10 rowing power, the Oregon State Beavers.

1. UW B, 6:28.0
2. UW A, 6:28.6
3. UW C, 6:52.1
5. Oregon State, 6:58.8
6. Seattle Pacific University, 7:11.4
