Lake Natoma, Ca - On April 23rd at 9:10 am, the Sacramento State Menís Varsity 8+ lined up against the UC Davis Aggies with full knowledge that the Hornets hadnít won the event since the year 2000.

Right off the start, with tensions high, the Hornets fumbled off the line and gave a quick half boat-length lead to a determined Davis boat. As the race progressed, the Hornets reeled in the Aggies and at 1250 meters into the race, took a 2-seat lead. Davis countered with a powerful move to again get even, but it was in the last 500 that the Hornets threw down a decisive sprint to win back the Phillip M. Kearney Sr. Cup for the first time in over a decade.
Final times: Sacramento State- 5:59.79, UC Davis- 6:00.10

The menís novice four also came away with a victory, defeating the Aggies by just under a second.
