Montlake Cut, Seattle, WA - For the first time in Sacramento State Rowing’s history, the Hornets will send a boat to participate in Seattle’s Opening Day Windermere Cup Regatta in Seattle, WA. On May 7th, 2011, Sacramento State will race a Varsity 4+ in the 25th annual Windermere Cup on the University of Washington’s Montlake Cut. This will also mark the first time in Sacramento State’s History that the Hornets have raced the University of Washington on their home course.

"It's one of the most special events the whole rowing world offers," said University of Washington’s women’s coach and rowing director Bob Ernst. "Crews have come from all over. From the Soviets to the German National Team, to the Australians when they brought five Olympic Champions, it's just a super opportunity for our student-athletes."

The Hornets will race in the regatta with other high profile teams such as Stanford University, University of Oklahoma and historic rowing power, Cambridge University from the United Kingdom.

Opening Day is on May 7th, one week after Sacramento State’s regional championship, the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Regatta, and two weeks before Sacramento State travels to Georgia to compete for the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) National Championship.
